Art Specialist (Junior) / Contract Position

The Art Specialist will assist the President and Vice President in sourcing consignments, developing the client base and preparing for frequent live and online fine art auctions. This is an excellent contract position for a motivated, client-oriented professional with a BA/MA in Art History or a related discipline.

Primary duties will include the following:

Providing art valuations (on-site and off-site), sourcing new client relationships, cataloguing artworks, networking at events, researching, contributing essays to the fine art catalogue, conducting condition reports, assisting with hanging of artwork and preparation of the gallery for public previews as well as some light travel within Canada.

Requirements/Skills:

  • Minimum of three years of professional experience in an auction house, gallery, or arts business
  • Post-secondary degree in Art History or related discipline
  • Knowledge of Canadian art (historical, post-war, contemporary) as well as knowledge of the art market
  • Professional presentation with excellent communication, writing, organizational, time management and customer service skills
  • Ability to assist in moving/displaying artworks

Assets:

  • Graduate degree (MA/ MBA)
  • Fluency in French
  • Driver's licence
